About

Preservation, Passion, and Uncompromised Balance

Welcome to Zauberwiesen. We are a small-scale, purpose-driven preservation breeding program dedicated exclusively to the traditional European German Shepherd. Our philosophy is simple: we do not breed for volume, nor do we chase passing championship fads. We breed to protect the historic utility, health, and soul of this incredible breed.

The Three Pillars of Our Program

Every breeding choice we make is anchored by three non-negotiable standards:

  • The Mind: Unshakable, level-headed temperaments. Our dogs are active parts of our family, raised to be entirely safe and reliable around small children and in busy public settings.
  • The Structure: Correct, functional beauty adhering strictly to German SV and FCI standards. We aim for the structural soundness recognized in top V and VA conformation ratings.
  • The Nerve: Proven working ability. We actively “proof” our dogs through rigorous SCH, IPO, and IGP trialing to ensure they possess the courage, drive, and environmental confidence required of a true utility dog.

Our Ethical Commitment

Because we prioritize quality over commercial production, we host very few litters. Every puppy is the result of meticulous lineage planning and extensive health and character testing.

For us, the German Shepherd community is a collaborative one. If our upcoming litters are not the perfect match for your lifestyle or goals, we will gladly offer guidance and redirect you to other reputable breeders who share our standards. We invite you to explore our lineage, witness our passion, and discover what makes a Zauberwiesen dog truly exceptional.

Our Story: Rooted at the Source

My journey with the German Shepherd is not just a hobby—it is a lifelong devotion to the true spirit of the breed. Living and working directly in Germany, I am privileged to be immersed in the exact birthplace and highest standards of the European German Shepherd. This geographic and cultural closeness allows me to witness firsthand what the breed’s founders intended: a dog of peerless intelligence, unshakeable loyalty, and unparalleled working capability.

Over the years, this passion evolved from admiration into a serious commitment to preservation breeding. I don’t just study pedigrees; I actively step onto the field to “proof” the genetics of our dogs.

A Legacy of Performance

My work with Zauberwiesen European German Shepherds is deeply defined by rigorous, hands-on training and competition. I believe that a breeder must also be a capable handler and trainer to truly understand the canine mind. This philosophy has guided our program to remarkable achievements on the national and international stage, including:

  • National Championship Success: Breeding, training, and handling V1 Athena von Zauberwiesen, who proudly earned the Siegerin title in the Working Class Female Stock and claimed the prestigious 3rd Place Bitework award at the Canada National Championships.
  • Advanced Master Titles: Training and trialing exceptional specimens like V Token von Zauberwiesento top-tier IPO3 and IGP3 titles, securing Koerklasse (Kkl) breed surveys, and achieving Breed Handler-Owner-Trainer (BHOT) and High In Trial (HIT) honors.

Every hour spent on the tracking field, every obedience routine, and every bitework session has taught me exactly what it takes to build stable, balanced nerves. When you welcome a Zauberwiesen puppy into your life, you are not just getting a family pet; you are receiving the culmination of decades of direct European heritage, proven championship-level work ethic, and a deep, personal promise to protect the legendary German Shepherd.

Mission

“At Zauberwiesen, our mission is to preserve the true legacy of the European German Shepherd by breeding for absolute balance. We believe a dog is only complete when physical beauty (structure), rock-solid stability (mind), and high working utility (nerve) exist in perfect harmony. We reject commercial trends to produce level-headed, multi-purpose companions who are as formidable in the working field as they are safe, gentle, and trustworthy with your children.”

The W litter

Our training program was established after many years of breeding. We keep several puppies and train them in our family and home to compete with, as a family. For proof of our skills, we have won multiple National level Performance Awards with multiple dogs in multiple countries. We have trialed in three countries and have shown in four countries in Club, Regional, National, and International levels winning top positions in both working and show classes. It is our goal to work the dogs that we produce and place our puppies (and retiring dogs) in great homes. For the puppies that we do not keep, they are all started (in German commands) on puppy shaping and have a good sit, lay, here, and heel foundation at 9 weeks old without the use of a collar or leash. We work on focus and teach them socialization through trips to our local dog club and trips with children in the German public transportation system, on leash. Each puppy that leaves our home has been started this way.

We are current members of four International sports/breed organizations. Windy has been a Certified Helper in two organizations and has attended countless helper seminars on both ends of the leash and has trialed in three countries, earning an invitation to the GSDCA Universal Sieger Championship in Wilmington, Ohio.
